Remake This Movie RIGHT began as a tiny nugget of fun on The Hollywood Outsider Podcast, where we would randomly recast popular classic films with updated actors, just to see who could come up with the craziest scenario. That grew into an idea I wanted to explore: what if, using the podcast medium, we had a show that celebrated both the good and the bad of any given film, and then instead of the hosts just bashing everything for laughs, we instead applied that fan magic to creating the modern film that we would WANT to see. It seemed like a no-brainer, and by using various hosts instead of the same three every week, it also struck me as special. More importantly, it was original.

Therefore I created Remake This Movie RIGHT! I definitely didn’t come up with every idea on my own. I collaborated with close friends and fellow podcasters Troy Heinritz and Brian Williams on how to make the format the best it could be, which meant of course bringing in our own voice talent in Mr. Wayne Henderson – courtesy of MediaVoiceOvers.com, of course - to craft a parody movie trailer tying everything that came before it together in one neat bow. Rob Rowald assisted me as he always does with everything technical to improve our presence on the internets, and Dustin Baker worked that graphical witchcraft to “remake” the Hollywood Outsider logo as Remake’s. Last, but definitely not least, was the inspiration from my former co-host Justin Macumber, who was constantly an advocate for a new, fresher take on beloved properties. Everything came together, and while the majority of the idea and production fell to me, Remake This Movie RIGHT would not be where it is without the help and shoulder to lean of from those listed above.

And now, it is time to say goodbye. For the past 4 years, I have personally put so many hours of blood sweat and tears into this show, and I can honestly say, my heart is full from all of the great responses and wonderful moments that stem from this show. Deciding to end the show has never been about a lack of interest, it has solely landed on the amount of time it takes to do each episode properly. After I wrapped Season 3, I had honestly moved on and felt we ended so strongly, it’s better to go out on top. But the fans wouldn’t have it. Email after email, Facebook messages, tweets, the comments kept coming. So much that I finally decided to bring the show back for one final season, and give it the send-off it – and the listeners – truly deserve.

So here we are, at the end of the road. I’m left with bittersweet memories of so many great moments. We did a couple of live episodes with audiences shouting their ideas and forcing us to change course that really warmed my heart. Wesley Snipes, the one true Blade, dug our Blade episode. And, of course, we had S.S. Wilson come by several times, which always made me smile, and even to remake his own film, Short Circuit. What a fantastic story to be able to tell.

As I close the show, I want to personally thank every listener who supported the show. Without you, we wouldn’t have made it this far. Also, thank you to the numerous hosts who have dropped by over the years. Each and every one of you contributed in your own unique voice to the success of this show, and there have been so many wonderful ideas over the years that STILL deserve to be salvaged by Hollywood. I also want to thank my family, who have supported this endeavor and all of the time it has taken away from other events and memories along the way. Your strength is what gives me mine.

And lastly, thank you once again to Wayne Henderson, for everything he has done for this podcast since the beginning. I can honestly say, this podcast wouldn’t have been the same without his voice bringing it all together after each episode. He has always been willing to do whatever nonsense I came up with as a script, and has never complained or shied away. Wayne is the best in the biz, as they say.

With that, this is your host, Aaron Peterson, saying goodbye and thank you to all of you Cinematic Architects. This has been a fantastic time in my life, and love to have shared it with each and every one of you. You can still find me talking about movies over at The Hollywood Outsider and creating stories with candid discussion on Smirk, but Remake has officially used its last reel of film.

The final credits have rolled on this podcast, so remember that every film you love will get a reboot someday, and only you can Remake This Movie RIGHT!

Henry Jones, Jr. is a professor, archaeologist, and adventurer. The U.S. government has enlisted his help: to locate and retrieve the fabled Ark of the Covenant! The only problem is...Nazis are right behind him.

For this episode, we dive into the greatest adventure film of all-time, as we determine what is it EXACTLY about Indiana Jones that makes him such a classic, legendary hero. A task so daunting, even we don't want to attempt it. It's time to Remake Raiders of the Lost Ark RIGHT!

Remake This Movie RIGHT! is a bi-weekly podcast where we take a classic film that is actively being remade by Hollywood studio execs, and craft our own version for a modern retelling. Does the story need updating? Should characters or motives be tweaked? Do we need more muppets? We take all factors into account, concoct our film, and then offer a Final Pitch to you in movie trailer form. By the end of each episode, we will Remake This Movie RIGHT!

Our show is broken down into three distinct parts:

The Original: We discuss the original film’s impact, some quick trivia bits, what worked the best from the film and therefore must remain in our upcoming remake, and what didn’t work or what needs to be changed for today’s audiences.

The Remake: We put together our movie! What story do we want to tell, how close to the original will it be, who will star, and ultimately who should direct our eventual cinematic masterpiece? Our hosts work together to put together one cohesive movie, but there is one caveat - Each host has one ‘CUT!’ throughout the episode to employ which could completely derail the entire film.

The Final Pitch: This is where we summarize our remake by utilizing the voice talents of voiceover artist Wayne Henderson and present our finished remake to you in movie trailer form!

Sean Archer desperately needs to stop Castor Troy, the terrorist-for-hire who is responsible for the death of his son. Unfortunately, once captured, Archer finds that Troy has planted a bomb somewhere, and the only way to find it is to take Castor Troy's place. Actually, to take his FACE!

For this episode, we let loose and have some fun with John Woo's action extravaganza. Can you ever top the lunacy of John Travolta and Nicolas Cage pretending to be each other?! It's time to Remake Face/Off RIGHT!

Connor MacLeod is special. A seemingly unassuming antique dealer in New York, Connor would not seem a master swordsman, yet that is exactly who he is. Graced with immortality, Connor has fended off foes for several lifetimes, and now his final challenge has arrived in Kurgan. Can he defeat his greatest enemy?

For this episode, we let the listeners choose, and they decided there could only be one Remake for our final season. You demanded it, and now it's here! It's time to take on...HIGHLANDER!

Clips selected from 1986's Highlander.

Based on his own short story, Trucks, Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive is what happens when Earth passes through the tail of Rea-M rogue comet, as machines come to life and begin to kill mankind. A group of survivors are under siege from fierce trucks at the Dixie Boy truck stop, and the film follows their plight as they fight to survive.

Adapting his own screenplay, Maximum Overdrive is Stephen King's solo directorial debut. Starring Emilio Estevez, the film was critically lambasted, yet has carried through the years as something of a cult classic. We have differing thoughts on the film, but we definitely felt this was a prime film for this final season.

It's time to Remake Maximum Overdrive RIGHT!

Enormous disc-shaped spaceships surround major cities around the Earth. The world is terrified, yet we are greeted by these alien beings in a friendly, welcoming manner. They claim to want to help us, to offer us technology and science in exchange for resources. They say they come in peace.

Mike Donovan and a few others quickly learn the truth. These visitors do not come in peace, they have come to enslave the human race. Can Mike and a small band of resistance fighters save the planet?

This time on our podcast, we're tackling one of the most beloved franchises of the 80s, one that was remade recently as a short-lived TV show. But with a feature film looming, we felt it was finally time to show Hollywood how to Remake V RIGHT!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, George Lucas had an idea. Take a space opera, through in some Hitler-esque motifs, a nod to religion, and create one of the greatest adventures of all time! Ok, he might not have known how big it would be, but Lucas had many brilliant ideas.

To kick off Season 4 of Remake This Movie RIGHT, we are going to journey back to the time of Obi-Wan, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, to re-create one of the most important childhood memories of our lifetimes.

It's time to Remake Star Wars RIGHT!

Aaron delivers a major announcement involving Season 4 of Remake This Movie Right

Jan 29, 2018

Aaron introduces his latest podcast, Smirk, now available on your podcast app of choice, or at SmirkPodcast.com

Magic. Wonder. Endless possibilities. This week, Amanda tells a story about a young boy, who imagination has awoken a spark of sorts. By the time she hits the hyperdrive to reach her moral, we will all recall that blinding innocence we held as a child.

Welcome to Smirk. A podcast that covers society and culture through a storytelling lens. Part creative writing, part discussion, and always interesting. Each week our hosts brings a story to the show, a story they wrote themselves. These stories can cover any topic the host wants to discuss, it can be lighthearted or more serious. No one but the author knows if these tales are truth or fiction, and part of the fun is guessing while you're listening before the reality is made clear.

We want to hear from you! If you want to share YOUR story, join the conversation by writing in to mystory@smirkpodcast.com, and include your moral, or you can let us guess at it. This is the podcast that looks at truth, fiction, and reality. With a Smirk.

Don't forget to subscribe to Smirk and share the show with your friends!
